Protect California Ballots

LONG TERM GOAL: Stop and eliminate the use of ALL computerized and privatized election equipment. Why? These machines are inaccurate. They use proprietary software that public officials cannot examine to count votes in secret. Democratic elections depend on publicly counted ballots. We want: to return to hand marked ballots, hand counted at the precincts, observed by citizens, party members, and the media. How will we achieve this goal?

  1. National, state, and local lawsuits against the private electronic machine companies and the elected officials who purchase them.
  2. Public pressure on County Board of Supervisors and elected officials who allow the use of them.
  3. Build public awareness and action networks to demand these changes.
  4. If necessary, prepare for civil disobedience to PREVENT ANOTHER STOLEN ELECTION (2000, 2002, 2004).

SHORT TERM GOALS FOR THE NOVEMBER 2006 ELECTION: Monitor, protect, report on, and insure that:

  1. All eligible citizens are able to vote;
  2. All valid ballots are counted accurately in public;
  3. The results are posted at the precincts and communicated correctly and directly to the local public before they are transmitted to statewide and national information receiving and broadcasting services.

IMMEDIATE AND ON-GOING ACTION: Demand that the LA County Board of Supervisors CANCEL the contract with Elections Systems and Software (ES&S) for the precinct scanners that have wireless capacity built in, and voting machines for the blind made by that do not accommodate any other group of disabled voters. ES&S has purchased the LA County InkaVote company. This company demonstrates little quality control and is unable to supply secure equipment as seen in their failures in 11 states during this current primary season.
