The Coalition Against Militarism in Our Schools, or "CAMS," informs and educates the public, especially students, parents, and school personnel, about the growing militarization of our schools and creates and presents positive nonviolent alternatives to that trend.

As the US expands its military presence around the world, the armed services need to increase the number of people enlisting. This has led to a growing presence of military recruiters and programs on school campuses, targeting our youth, who often are led to believe they have no other options. CAMS seeks to offset that presence, asking students to think critically and question the statements made by the recruiters, and to offer alternatives to students, showing positive, life affirming opportunities often not presented to them.

The Coalition Against Militarism in Our Schools is hosting the CAMS Peace RUNWAY March and Dinner on Saturday September 29th.  To secure your attendance, please pay via the buttons below.  Admission to either the march or dinner includes parking.

Project Great Futures works to provide Southern California youth with information about alternatives to military enlistment. We look for and promote programs and services which support, affirm, and encourage young people to fulfill their dreams. Our goal is to support students to think critically, research the options, raise their expectations, and to empower students to make up their own minds about their future.

Youth have heard and even believed that"If you're not rich, your options after high school (or even college) are Wal-Mart, prison, or the military." Project Great Futures seeks to expose this myth for what it is and whom it benefits. It challenges young people to expect the most and the best in themselves, and supports them in the process of exploring the options. We've researched the opportunities in southern California. as well as some national and international programs, and found many excellent ones!

There are so many opportunites young people need to know about:

  • Opportunites for affordable, attainable education;
  • Opportunites to develop skills and interests leading to well-paid rewarding careers;
  • Opportunites to develop as leaders and activists to make their communities, and the world, a better place;
  • Opportunites to get help and guidance in figuring out who they are, how to handle problems and conflicts, and what they want out of life.

Project Great Futures is about getting information to as many young people as possible, to help them make informed, realistic decisions that will let them achieve their dreams and build great futures.
