Campaign Humane

The mission of Campaign Humane is to establish fundamental legal rights for non-human animals and the ability of people to assert these rights on behalf of animals.

To achieve its mission, Campaign Humane promotes the rights of animal activists to speak up for animals, and challenges efforts by the government and corporate enterprises to suppress animal rights activism.  We seek to affirmatively develop legal avenues to compel animal exploiting industries to fully disclose how they mistreat animals, and to grant ordinary people the right to use the legal system to protect animals from abuse and exploitation.  We advocate for laws and policies which undercut the legal status of animals as property and move society toward ending speciesism, while building alliances with advocates in other social justice movements to combat all forms of oppression.

Campaign Humane stands for a community in which individuals, businesses and governments operate without abusing and exploiting animals, and consume the resources of our planet sustainably while leaving wildlife habitat intact.  We are dedicated to a society where our laws and legal system are used to protect the interests, needs and rights of animals in order to ensure they are able to live freely.  We envision a world in which the idea of speciesism is as repugnant as racism, and animal rights is central to all movements for social justice.  We are committed to a planet where animals and the earth are respected by humans, and are recognized as belonging only to themselves, which is the foundation of a just and sustainable future.

In achieving its mission, Campaign Humane will develop legal, legislative and public awareness campaigns and programs designed to:

• Educate the public about the horrors of individual and institutionalized animal cruelty and the alternatives available in creating a cruelty-free world.
• Utilize a website, media, books, videos, public speaking and other outreach tools to increase public sentiment and action towards ending animal cruelty and exploitation.
• Mobilize activists working in other social justice movements and communities of color in general to combat both animal & human exploitation. 
• Bring together animal advocates from across the U.S. to share information and resources and to develop leaders and advocates from diverse backgrounds, communities and cultures.
• Develop and pass model laws for establishing private rights of action to protect animals, and advocate passing such laws at the state and federal levels.
• Pass legislation requiring animal exploiting industries to fully disclose their mistreatment of animals in all their facilities, along with the use of animals in any of their products.
• Expose public relations campaigns and legislative strategies being proposed or promoted by corporate enterprises and/or the government to suppress animal rights activism.
• Empower animal rights activists and the general public to fight against laws and policies used by the government and animal abusing industries to repress activism.
• Generate and implement specific strategies for dismantling the legal status of animals as property. 

In carrying out these activities, Campaign Humane will become a national leader in implementing a coordinated strategy for promoting animal liberation in all sectors of our society, including establishing basic legal rights for animals, while monitoring our progress towards this goal across the U.S.
