The world is focused on the important global and environmental issues facing the Amazon Rain forest region. Naturalists, biologists, environmentalists and wandering souls visit Iquitos in droves. The Internet is filled with gorgeous photos and awe-inspired travelogues by these people, most of whom are enchanted by the beauty of the Peruvian Amazon and the relaxed, friendly lifestyle of the Peruvian people. These wonderful trips to the Amazon don't advertise the shocking reality visitors face upon arrival in Iquitos!
Homeless dogs and cats, struggling to survive on the streets -- a sight that is all too common. There is no government animal control program. In the past, strays have been controlled by mass poison campaigns. This forces animals to endure a painful and long death, and the poison remains in the environment and water supply as vultures eat dead animal carcass's left to rot in their final resting place . . . an inhumane death entirely devoid of dignity

Amazon Community Animal Rescue, Education & Safety (Amazon c.a.r.e.s.) seeks better health and living conditions for ALL living beings of the Peruvian Amazon region by providing appropriate veterinary care to owned & stray domestic animals, protecting said animals from cruelty & neglect, and promoting humane living & responsible pet ownership.
The purpose of Amazon c.a.r.e.s. is focused upon:
