Advantage Foundation

The Advantage Foundation
was formed to support prevention efforts in resource poor settings and
create as well as sustain healthier communities through a
compassionate, comprehensive response to HIV/AIDS..
Some areas of Southern Africa have an alarmingly high infection rate
of HIV and thousands are dying from AIDS. Advantage Foundation will
concentrate on these areas to prevent new infections and also to help
those who are affected by HIV and AIDS. We are dedicated to providing
care and support to people living with HIV/AIDS and we will offer the
following services:
Complete
Care Centre:
We will work with local hospice facilities and have a vision of
creating a facility that will be ran and operated by Advantage Foundation we will also
form partnerships with local hospice centers which will be used to
accommodate any overflow from Advantage
Foundation. This much-needed facility will provide hospice
beds, regular nursing staff (volunteer and paid staff), clinical care,
and the facilities to treat the critically ill. Outreach in home
hospice visit s will be available to those people receiving home care
(home health care visits). With a disease so
prevalent and the bulk of the victims unable to afford hospital care, a
dedicated centre like this one will be crucial - a haven for people
living with HIV/AIDS, and a place that lends final dignity to those
with full-blown AIDS.
Counseling:
Free short-term counseling will be offered to people living with
HIV/AIDS, their spouses and families. Appointments will be immediate
and conducted face-to-face by Advantage
Foundation volunteer counselors, or by telephone. Most of the
counseling will be done at the Advantage
Foundation offices, but outreach visits are made to surrounding
areas. The clients can be divided into the following groups:
The majority are homeless, jobless, and
HIV+ or have AIDS;
People who are HIV asymptomatic;
Friends, parents, partners of people with HIV/AIDS;
People worried about their own status.
Food:
This program will provide a measure of relief for our patients who do
not have the means to buy basic necessities to sustain themselves and
their families. Each client requesting a food parcel will receive
counseling on basic HIV/AIDS education and nutrition. Clients have to
provide a record of their status and clients will be requested to
provide contact information and as much information as possible.
Clothing:
In addition through public donations, Advantage Foundation Affiliate
manages will provide clothing to families and children affected by
HIV/AIDS who are living in the informal settlements. The majority
of people living AIDS end being homeless, jobless and living in abject
poverty.
Financial
Support Services: The main aim of this program is to
provide a measure of relief for clients for a period of six months in
order to enable them to get back on their feet; this would include
looking at the stress levels, diet and nutrition, etc. There will
also be financial support to help families with the burial cost.
Income
generation service: Develop Arts & Crafts income generating
program in which people will receive training on how to making crafts
and in turn sell them to generate income. The project will serve
a dual function. First, it will empower participants with the skills to
make and sell arts and crafts. Second, it will function as a support
facility, where people living with HIV/AIDS can interact with each
other and receive a hot meal. Participants will be treated as family
and, as such, they are will be encouraged to bring their children along
to share in the benefits of a caring environment.
Infant
Support & AIDS Orphan Project. The Advantage Foundation Program will be
set up in tandem with the development of the Complete Care Centre. The
plan is to provide for 15 - 30 orphans, housed in the Complete Care
Centre, where they are provided with shelter, food, bedding, clothing,
toys and support and counseling. Children's ages will range from
0 to 6 years. Most children will be from people who have passed away or
are too ill to care for their children.
There will also be a program to provide financial support for
orphaned children living with relatives whereby the appointed caregiver
will receive a financial monthly supplement; money will be used for
food, shelter and clothing. There will be monthly evaluations and home
inspections to ensure that the children are being properly cared
for. Each caregiver will be asked to give an account of the funds
used and also provide a report about the child’s health status HIV+ or
AIDS and general development.
